OTRANTO SEA
Otranto is known all over the world also for its limpid and crystalline sea and for its beautiful coast that every year attracts thousands of tourists. “Laghi Alimini” are the most characteristic element of the fresh water of otranto.
They are made of two river basins with different appearances: the first one called Fontanelle and situated in the south, it flows out from an underground source of sweet water; the second one is called “Alimini Grande”, it’s fed by Fontanelle through a channel and it is closed by the dunes.
The south coast of Otranto instead presents the port divided into two different kind of coast: the white rock, with the always green bushes that represent the small gulf of the “Orte”, where the old Torre del Serpe or Torre dell’Idro, used as coat of arms of the city challenge winds and centuries. This side of coast is high and rocky and it stands in a picturesque and evocative scenery between promontories and beaches.
